According to some people, it is beneficial for young people to travel abroad; however, others insist that it is a waste of their time and money. Although both viewpoints have their merits, I would side with the former viewpoint in this matter.

On the one hand, traveling abroad is expensive. You have to pay for the flight tickets and accommodation. Very few people can afford it. In addition, the visa process can be cumbersome. Oftentimes, it takes months to get a visa and this is such a waste of time. Also, these travels can sometimes disrupt a person’s work or studies and in this case, they often have unintended consequences. Culture shock is another problem. For example, when people coming from conservative societies visit western countries, they are in for a rude shock. Likewise, westerners visiting Asian countries many also face similar issues.

On the other hand, these trips offer invaluable lessons and experience to young people. When people travel, they get exposed to different cultures, lifestyles and belief systems. This changes their perspective and enhances their horizon. Traveling abroad is also an opportunity for young people to learn a new language or try exotic cuisines. Such experiences not only make travel more exciting and fun, but also provide valuable experiences and knowledge. Needless to say, people who travel a lot tend to be more understanding and tolerant. Also, visiting developed countries is an opportunity for young people to learn more about the technologies they use. This knowledge may help them improve the situation back home.

To conclude, there is no denying the fact that traveling abroad can be time consuming and expensive. However, the benefits are usually worth our time and money although there are a few downsides as well.
