In The Future, It May Be Necessary For Us To Live On Other Planets

The earth may become inhabitable in the near or distant future due to many reasons. If that happens, we may have to move to other planets. Hence, some people opine that we should spend money on research programs that will enable us to live on other planets like Mars. I partially agree with this statement.

Human population is increasing. There are already over 8 billion people. If the population continues to grow at the current rate, we will soon find a shortage of land and resources on earth. Global warming and other environmental issues may also make earth unsuitable for life in future. If that happens, we will have to move to other planets. This requires a great deal of preparation. First, we have not yet been able to find another planet that supports life. Mars is considered to be a good choice but the existing conditions on Mars do not support life. That means if we want to move there, we have to artificially create an environment that sustains life. Without spending a lot of money on space research programs we cannot accomplish any of these. And even if we try, there is no guarantee that we will succeed.

On the other hand, improving conditions on earth is a whole lot easier than moving to other planets. Our planet already has conditions perfect for all forms of life to thrive. It is us humans who destroy it. Many people are now excited about the prospect of moving to other planets; hence, they do not even feel the need to address environmental issues on earth. This mentality has to change. We have to practice conservation. Otherwise, we will destroy every place we inhabit. Also, even if we manage to move to Mars or moon, there we will have to live in artificial capsules that mimic the conditions on earth. Life in such a capsule will never be as enjoyable as it is on earth. Hence, rather than trying to find other inhabitable planets, our priority must be conserving what we already have. Of course, this does not mean that we should stop space research. Let it continue alongside.

To include, there is no harm in researching other planets suitable for life. However, in my opinion, what is even more important is trying to improve conditions on earth so that we do not have to move.
