In Many Countries, The Number Of Plants And Animals Is Declining

Sample essay

Massive destruction of plants and animals is happening in many countries around the world. The causes of this development include deforestation, wildfires and human greed.

Deforestation is a major cause of the destruction of wildlife. As human population increases, the demand for food also increases. Consequently, more area has to be brought under cultivation. This is usually accomplished by clearing forests. When forests are destroyed, animals lose their natural habitat and they find it difficult to survive. Many rare plants, trees and medicinal herbs that only grow in forests also disappear due to deforestation. Another major cause is wildfire. The fire that engulfed the Amazon forests made global headlines recently. The fire destroyed huge areas of forest land. Along with plants, numerous animals also perished. Wildfires have become a common occurrence in many parts of the world. Rising temperatures and frequent droughts could be the reason. Even a minor spark can ignite a fire if the forest is dry. Sometimes, humans deliberately set fire to forests with the objective of turning that area into agricultural land.

People also hunt animals for their skin, teeth and nails. For example, animals like tigers, crocodiles, rhinos and even elephants are on the endangered species. Sometimes animals are killed for producing medicines and cosmetic products. Some species of animals have already become extinct due to human activities. Many more animals will join the list if authorities do not put an end to hunting and poaching.

To sum up, a number of factors lead to the destruction of plants and animals. The most important among them are deforestation and wildfires. Hunting and poaching also contribute to this development. Since the extinction of various species have disastrous consequences for other beings, it is important for authorities to find a solution to this problem.
