The transport system is an integral part of our day to day life and plays a crucial role in the development of a nation. Some countries promote public modes of transport and discourage their citizens from owning cars. In my opinion, the advantages of this practice outshine the disadvantages.

The very first advantage of using public transport is the reduction in the consumption of fossil fuels. We have limited sources of fuels left on our planet and everyone is aware that it takes millions of years for fossil fuel deposits to form. It is our responsibility to make judicious utilization of such resources. As public transport can carry a large number of passengers it helps reduce fuel consumption. This helps to reduce air pollution and global warming as well. Another advantage of using public transport is that it helps reduce traffic congestion. When there are fewer private vehicles on the road, the traffic can move smoothly. Fewer vehicles also means lower chances of accidents. Public transport is cheaper too. By simply opting for trains or buses, people can reduce their traveling costs considerably.

Of course, there are some downsides as well. Public transport does not offer the same level of comfort as private vehicles. Also, it can be inconvenient at time. The public has to follow a timetable and set their plans accordingly because buses and trains have a fixed schedule and route.

In conclusion, there are definitely more advantages than disadvantages to promoting public transport. It is not very comfortable and takes longer to reach the destination, but it saves our environment and reduces traffic congestion.
