Dear Sir or Madam
I recently read / saw your post inviting readers to submit an article about the book that influenced them the most; hence, I am writing this letter.
The book that influenced me the most is Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky. It is the story of a father and his four sons – three legitimate and one illegitimate. It is a huge book with impressive characters and a philosophical undertone.
I read this book while I was at college and I read it again after several years. What impressed me the most was that on both occasions, the novel provided altogether different reading experiences. When I read it as a teenager, I couldn’t fully gauge the depth of its plot. I was really impressed with the way it unravels the mysteries of human mind.
Dostoevsky has always been my favourite writer because his novels reflect on themes like the purpose of life and death. I also admire the finesse with which he builds his characters. I am sure everyone who appreciates such complex plots with deeper meanings will enjoy this book. However, I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who reads just to kill their time.
Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to contribute to your esteemed weekly column.
Yours sincerely
