Average calorie intake in 2003

Sample report

The graph given above shows the average number of calories consumed by the people of 8 countries in the year 2003. It is hard to say whether the consumption rates follow any specific pattern, but one thing is certain: the richer the country, the higher the caloric intake.

United States leads the pack with the highest caloric consumption. On average, US people consume around 3350 calories a day. New Zealand comes a close second with its people consuming around 3200 calories per day. Spaniards and Mexicans occupy the third slot. They both consume a little over 2500 calories per day.

The countries that lie on the lower end of the spectrum are Somalia, Indonesia, India and China. While the people of Somalia and Indonesia consume roughly around 1800 calories per day, Indians and Chinese consume around 2100 and 2200 calories respectively. A comparison of the highest and lowest figures also reveals an interesting fact: an average American consumes roughly twice as many calories as an average Indonesian.
