Band 9 IELTS letter sample

Dear Anand,

I was delighted to find your letter in my mailbox, but my joy soon gave way for despair. What happened to you, my boy? Why do you want to drop out? Your despondency is beyond my understanding.

I had a chance meeting with your class teacher last week and he was all praise for you. He told me that you are one of the most brilliant students in his class. So I was shocked to read in your letter that you didn’t want to take the examination because you weren’t well-prepared. To get a better understanding of the situation, I called your friends and they also told me that you have been burning the midnight oil for three months.

I guess you have developed some misconceptions about your skills and preparation. You also seem to be in the grip of anxiety. Boy, you are underestimating your caliber. Give up this fear of failure and take the exams with confidence. I’m quite sure that you will come off with flying colours.

All the best.

Gautam
