Band 8 IELTS letter sample

Dear Samuel,

I received your letter two days ago and I heard that you can’t decide whether you should get a job or go to college. I think getting a job would be the better option for you.

Let me tell you why. As I’ve known you since childhood I think I know your interests and needs very well. All these years, I have seen you showing more interest in doing things than learning lessons. You used to be always busy doing the practical stuff like fixing cars. As a result, you had very poor classroom attendance. This makes me feel strong that university is not suitable for you.  Even if you join, you are more likely to drop out.

Getting a job will not only help your interests but also enable you to earn some good money. Your family financial situation makes me feel this is the right choice for you.

With the knowledge and skills you have, I think you could easily get a job in the automobile industry and I’m pretty sure that within a few years you will be able to establish yourself as a successful mechanic. I hope my advice helps you.

Best wishes,

Sandeep

Band 7.5 IELTS letter sample

Dear Veena,

I hope you are doing well.  I am pleased that you asked my guidance about choosing your path. I think you should opt for a job.

I would encourage you to get some work experience before you pursue higher studies. Nowadays, in colleges, more focus is given to theoretical concept rather than practical knowledge. I presume you will find it boring as you are an experimentative person.

If you have hands-on experience, you can easily achieve your goal of becoming a proficient computer programmer. Once you enter Information Technology Industry, you will get the opportunity to work on real life web and mobile application development. Also, you can learn other skills such as team work and time management.

It would be better if you apply for a junior developer role by registering on job search sites like Naukri, Linkedin or talk to senior students who are already working in such companies.

I believe my suggestion will help you take the right decision.

Best wishes,

Vidhya

    Dear Andrew,

I recently received a letter from you for seeking suggestions as you are confused whether you should go for university or job. I would suggest you to go for job based on your interest; whilst, studying in school.

You always interested in practical work rather than academic, when you were studying in school with me. Since employment is always better to increase knowledge practically, so college is not suitable for you.

In addition to this, as your father is suffering from heart disease, it is a good way to support family with financial means. Moreover, this will teach you how to handle pressure in difficult times of life.

According to me, you should search employment in computer field. Because, I know you are a very good at computer during school days and you always stood first in all competitions related to software field. This will not only help you to gain experience in one of your interested field but also beneficial for your career growth.

    Best Wishes,

    Karan
