You recently received a letter from a friend asking for advice about whether to go to college or try to get a job. You think he/she should get a job.

  • Explain why getting a job is a good idea for him/her
  • Suggest types of job that would be suitable for him/her.

Band 7 IELTS letter sample

Dear Lisa,

I was so happy to receive your letter and I am glad to hear that you and your family are doing well. The reason that I am writing this letter is that you specifically asked my opinion regarding your future plans.  I feel that you should get a job rather than going to college.

First and fore-most in today’s job market, companies are interested to hire young people with experience. In most of the cases it doesn’t matter whether you earned your degrees from a regular college or via distance education. Therefore, it is a mere waste of time if you choose to attend college on a regular basis.

Instead, you should consider a decent job you are interested in. After three years, you will have earned some valuable working experience. Also, if you are really keen on pursuing higher education, you can opt for a distance education program.

My suggestion would be joining an IT company as a fresher. As you know the demand in this industry is always rising. Moreover, I have some friends who are working as Human Resource representatives. If you want I will contact them for any such vacancy. I hope you find my suggestions valuable.
