Band 8 IELTS letter sample

Dear Grandma

How are you doing? I’m so sorry I haven’t been able to visit you for the past month as I’ve been terribly busy with my studies.

I’m due to sit for my exams next week and there is so much for me to prepare. On top of my theory tests, there are practical tests that I will have to take to prove my competency as a dentist before I’m allowed to practice on patients.

My classes will end in three weeks’ time after my finals and I’ll be able to spend some time with you for a couple of days after that. I hope that you haven’t made any arrangements to go out of town during that time. If you are free then I’ll be able to visit you when my internship starts in the first week of March as I wouldn’t be swarmed with work.

I am dying to see you.

Stay safe and healthy

    Dear Martha,

Hope you and the family are doing well.

First, I want to say that I’m extremely sorry for cancelling the plan to visit everyone and also for not writing earlier to inform about the changes.

The thing is that I have been too busy with my studies lately and just haven’t got a single day off. You remember the robotics assignment that I had told you earlier, well, the deadline to submit that was a whole week before than I had anticipated and because of this, I have to put long hours to finish the project.

Anyway, I’m excited to tell you that I’ll be coming home the next week on 15 June and this time I’ll be staying for a good 15 days so I get enough time to be with you and others. I hope that you don’t have any travel plans to go out at that time.

I’m sorry again for not being able to visit sooner. Look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Dear Grandma,

    How are you?

I am very sorry that I was not able to visit home last month as I was busy with my studies.

As you know, I am in the final year of my degree and have to prepare a lot of assignments as a part of course work. Additionally, the tutor has asked me to submit an additional project report by next weekend due to which I was not able to visit you or even write a letter.

I am planning to come over to your place in two weeks as I will be free by then after the submission of assignments and the project report. Sometimes, I do miss the old days when I use to do gardening with you in the backyard, and I want to live it again. Please let me know if you are free on 14th March or have any other plans.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

    With Love,
