Band 8 IELTS letter sample

Dear Carolyn,

Hope this letter finds you in the best of health and spirit. It’s been quite a few months since I wrote to you. Actually I was busy with lots of things happening around me. As you know, we shifted to a new apartment three months ago.

The apartment is really good but my office was around 45 kms away from it. Hence, I decided to quit that office and I am really happy to tell you that I have got another job. The most interesting fact about my new office is that it is only four kms away from my home and I don’t have to travel much now unlike in the past. Also, the company has provided me a better remuneration and the timing is also flexible. The colleagues in the new office are very friendly and have helped me a lot to adjust to the new environment. Even my boss is very much understanding. It is really fun working with them.

Also, on the personal front, I have some great news to share with you. My younger sister’s marriage has been fixed and it is going to take place on 15th July. I will send you the invite.

I am really excited about her wedding and would be extremely happy if you could attend it.

Hoping to see you soon

Cheers

Dear Alice,

How are you? Sorry haven’t been in touch with you for a few months because of overwhelming work pressure but now I am feeling relaxed and want to share some interesting news with you.

First of all, I have switched to a new company near my home town. As you know my mother has been suffering from some health issues, I cannot entirely rely on servants to take care of her. Therefore, I decided to change my job so that I can be close to my home. I think I should have made this decision earlier because my mother was feeling so lonely without me. However, now her health is getting improved.

Although initially it seemed a bit difficult to switch the workplace, now I have adjusted to the new atmosphere of the company. In fact, it is a very reputed organisation and offers a very handsome salary. On top of it, I hope to get a chance to visit foreign countries in future.

By the way, I have another piece of good news to share with you. Our childhood friend Leesha is coming from Australia next month and I am planning to throw a small party to welcome her.

It would be great if you could also come to the party.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Hoping to hear from you soon.

Best regards

Anita
