Band 8 IELTS essay sample
Due to urbanization, the existence of various animal species is at risk. Since animals are an integral part of the ecosystem and food chain, it is essential to protect them from any further damage. In my opinion, keeping the human consumption and fertility rate in control and enacting strict environmental laws will help to a great extent.
Human activity is the main cause of the extinction of animals and as such humans have a moral obligation to protect them. Animals need to be protected because they are an integral part of the ecosystem and food chain. A lot of people are under the misconception that humans can survive even after all animals are gone. That is not true at all. The extinction of even a single species has terrible impacts on the ecosystem. For example, if predators like lions and tigers become extinct, the population of herbivores will increase. They will then eat up the entire forest and when they can’t find enough food in the forest, they will start raiding farms. Likewise, a massive drop in the number of herbivores will cause all carnivores to become extinct.
There are a few measures that have been suggested by experts to increase the population of endangered species and reverse this unfortunate tragedy, of which, I deem strict law enforcement to be the most effective method. With the significant increase in desertification and deforestation by massive industries across the globe, numerous different animals are losing their habitants. It is an indisputable fact that financial gains are the root cause of deforestation in many countries. If strict rules and regulations with heavy fines were in place, those industries would not proceed with their detrimental plans to destroy forests and natural habitats. For example, the rate of deforestation in Brazil is twice as much as in Canada, because agricultural companies do not face with any resistance from the law enforcement in Brazil. On the contrary, Canada has stringent laws to protect the environment. Hence, law authorities play a crucial rule in animal preservation.
In conclusion, industrialization endangered various species, and our food security. Enforcing strict laws and eliminating the financial benefits of deforestation are in my opinion one of the best ways to counter this threat and save animals.
