A number of people tend to eat junk food regularly. It can lead to various health problems. Hence, some people argue that junk food should be banned to solve the health problems. I do not agree with this view. In my opinion, it is the consumer’s responsibility to take care of their health.
On the one hand, junk food is typically poor in terms of nutrition. According to a study, fast food tends to contain various ingredients that are mainly unhealthful. It also contains high amount of salt, sugar, and trans fats. Regular consumption of such meals cause obesity and affects normal growth and development of the body. In the long term, excessive consumption of sugar, salt and trans-fats raises the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and cancer.
Even so, Junk food should not be banned even if it causes health problems to the consumers because not everyone has time to prepare balanced food. If junk food is banned, busy working couples who cannot afford to hire a domestic help will have to suffer a lot. These packaged meals are a boon for people who cannot cook proper meals every day. Banning junk food will also make life difficult for the poor sections of the society. Generally speaking, healthy food is more expensive than junk food and hence poor people cannot afford it. If junk food is also banned, the poor will have nothing to eat. Besides, it is the consumer’s responsibility to control their diet. However, the manufacturer should give nutrition facts such as calories and ingredients on the products.
To conclude, fast food can have bad effect on your health if you eat it too regularly but if you can control your consumption, it will not cause any health problem in you. In my opinion, it is the duty of the consumer to monitor their diet and the government should not interfere in it.
