Nowadays, a great deal of money is spent on space exploration which does not make any sense any sense to me because it should be spent to tackle urgent and important issues around the globe, such as poverty and disease threats.
On the one hand, some people support space missions because of their potential benefits. For example, many people believe that one day we will be able to colonize Mars or Moon. If that indeed becomes a reality, it will be a lasting solution to the problem of resource crunch and over population on earth. Also, space missions enable us to learn more about the planet we live in. Even if we cannot migrate to another planet, it is still interesting to find out whether life exists on other planets.
On the other hand, there are more pressing concerns on earth that need to be resolved before we attempt to colonize other planets. Also, there is no guarantee that space missions will deliver the promised results. In other words, the money spent on space exploration can be spent to develop third world nations and help them overcome a number of difficulties, such as poverty, ill health and lack of access to education. Furthermore, our planet still has a lot of untapped resources. There are also huge tracts of land that, if developed, can be used to build human settlements. Hence, if you use the available resources to improve the conditions on our planet, we will not have to migrate elsewhere outside the planet.
To conclude, although space exploration seems to have many benefits, it is a costly investment whose profitability is not guaranteed. Therefore, we should invest money on improving our planet, which requires less expense and has greater chances of success.
