Band 8 IELTS essay sample
It is argued that public gardens and gyms should be given more importance than shopping complexes while designing new cities. I understand the concerns of the people who hold this opinion; however, I believe that shopping malls are just as important as parks or sports centres in a town.
There are numerous reasons why sports facilities are crucial to city dwellers. First of all, they provide suitable space and equipments for people to exercise. For example, people can go jogging in the park and play tennis and basketball in the sports stadium. This not only keeps their body fit but also elevates their mood. Also, parks and sports centers are good spots for people to socialise. People can connect with each other while playing sports or walking in the park.
Although parks and gyms provide the town inhabitants with all kinds of benefit, I think shopping complexes are equally essential. Firstly, a shopping center could make shopping more convenient for local residents. It would enable them to easily purchase things in town and transport them home with less effort at lower cost. They will not need to spend extra on transportation or shipping of the goods. Secondly, a shopping mall can provide employment. Locals can find work in retails or security of the mall and earn to support their families.
To conclude, even though parks and sports centers serve as places for exercise and social activities for city dwellers, I believe that shopping centers are equally important, since they provide job opportunities and convenience to town residents.

Some people argue that we should build more infrastructure like parks or sports areas when we designing a town rather than shopping malls. In my opinion, public zones like parks or sports centers, and shopping malls are equally important.
On the one hand, public facilities can benefit people in several ways. Firstly, it encourages people to do more regular exercise. It is known that people who take more sport or do outdoor activities are generally healthier. Secondly, building more basic facilities can create more space for people to communicate. The process of building connection and bonding between people is significant because of the isolation lifestyles that most people are living in nowadays. Finally, the parks, in particular, can improve the environment of the town. This ‘green view’ can be the special part of the concrete jungles of the town.
On the other hand, I believe that shopping malls play an essential role in people’s daily life too. Modern shopping centers usually involve with big supermarket, a variety of clothing brands, banks and even cinemas which can convenient people’s life. For example, people can get ingredients for cooking from the supermarket, get their stylish clothes from different shops, save and withdraw money in banks, and entertain themselves in the cinema. Without the shopping malls in town, people’s life can be extremely difficult, as they may have to waste time on driving to neighbour towns where have access to these basic services and products.
In conclusion, I personally agree with the significance of public areas like parks or sports facilities, but I insist that the availability of shopping malls is vital for citizens too.
This seems band 7 to me.
Although some people might believe that the construction of shopping centers is crucial when planning a new town, I strongly believe support the opinion that more green areas and sport facilities should take priority.
Those who think that more shopping centers will improve a city’s development hold this view for several reasons. Firstly, creating areas where people can find services, shops and entertainment will certainly lead to an increase in the number of tourists. In fact, individuals are often more attracted to cities where several shopping areas are available. Furthermore, shops can easily provide people all the amenities they need. For instance, it is common to find supermarkets, libraries, pharmacies or beauty centers inside a big store.
Nevertheless, I am of the opinion that public parks and sport facilities should come first when developing a new town. The main reason is that green areas, such as parks or gardens, have a pivotal role in maintaining a healthy environment. In fact, creating there areas will help decrease the amount of pollution in the atmosphere, leading to more fresh and clean air. In addition to this, building sport facilities will surely encourage people to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. Individuals will have the possibility to exercise more frequently and this will therefore create a healthier community.
To conclude, although introducing shopping centers may have some positive benefits, I believe that the advantages of adding new public parks and sport facilities will be greater. In this way, not only individuals but also the environment will benefit.
This is a reasonably good essay and seems band 7 to me. Try not to make a lot of mistakes in the introduction.
