We are becoming increasingly dependent on computers. They are used in businesses, hospitals, crime detection and even to fly planes. What things will they be used for in the future? Is this dependence on computers a good thing or should we be more suspicious of their benefits?

Band 7 IELTS essay sample

There is no denying the fact that we are becoming more and more dependent on computers. We use them in almost all sectors like healthcare, education, management and so on. In my opinion, this dependence will grow in the coming years. This essay will examine whether this change is positive or not.

To begin with, in medical sector, may be in future the computer operated robot will treat the patient instead of a human doctor. Although it sounds abnormal, it is possible as lots of medical issues are solved by computers nowadays. For instance, in 2016 there were reports that a computer assisted robot had performed a minor surgery in China. Therefore it is safe to expect that computers will make a big change / big changes in the medical sector. It can be said that it is definitely good for humanity.

Another important idea is management. In the near future probably one can manage his managerial duty properly from his own home sitting in-front of the computer using different software programmes. This is already happening in a small scale in different countries. My prediction is that in the near future, people will be dependent on their computers for the completion of their tasks. Thus, the computer will change human activities also in the managerial sector a lot in the very near future which is an advantage obviously.

Moreover in the transportation sector a massive change for fast and error free journey is expected. To illustrate, all planes nowadays use computers for a safer journey while it is an obvious fact that we will get more use of computer in this sector to make the journey smooth and enjoyable .This is also a good side of using computers on a broader scale.

However, on the other hand there are some disadvantages as well. When more and more computers are being used more people will be jobless. Also we need to be aware that computers have the potential to destroy the entire humanity.

In conclusion, advancement of anything has both good and bad sides. We should step further considering both sides and take the best approach for betterment of humanity.
