Task 1 IELTS writing sample

The pie charts show the percentage of water used for domestic, agricultural and industrial purposes in six regions of the world – North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Central Asia and South East Asia.

Overall, it can be seen that agriculture consumes much of the water in all areas except in North America and Europe. While industries used about half of the water in North America and Europe, water consumption by industries was significantly low in other regions. In South America, Africa, Central Asia and South East Asia, more than 2-3rd of the available water was used for agricultural purposes. Central Asia had the highest consumption of water for agriculture where as much as 88% of it was used for growing crops. Domestic and industrial consumption of water was negligible in Africa, Central Asia and South East Asia. South America consumed the highest percentage of water (19%) for domestic use followed by Europe (15%). Europe had the highest percentage of water used for industrial purpose (53%) while Central Asia consumed the least amount of it (5%) for this purpose.
