The table gives data about subway metro systems in six cities from different countries. It can be seen that London was the first metropolis to have a subway while Los Angeles was the last of the six cities to build it. The underground railway in London was laid in 1863 whereas in Los Angeles it was laid in 2001. The table shows that Paris railway system has a route of 199km long. The London subway is also the longest. At 394 kilometres, it is twice as long as the subway system in Paris. At 155 kilometres, the Tokyo subway is slightly longer than the subway of Washington DC which covers a distance of 126 kilometers. The graph also illustrates that subway systems of Kyoto and Los Angeles are the shortest, measuring just 11km, and 28km, respectively. Although Tokyo underground route covers only 155km, it is the busiest system among the six cities. On the contrary, the oldest system among the six cities in London transported 775 millions/year. Tokyo and Los Angeles subways are the least busy. Together they carry about 95 million people per year.
