The given bar graph shows the share of Asia, Europe and the rest of the world in manufacturing production during the course of 160 years between 1840 and 2000. Overall, it can be seen that Asia was the manufacturing hub of the world in 1840 and produced 50% of the total goods. In the same year, Europe produced 40% of the goods and the rest of the world produced only 10%. By 1880, Europe had surpassed Asia as the biggest manufacturer of the world and was responsible for 45% of the total production. Production in the rest of the world also increased from 10% in 1840 to 25% in 1880. Meanwhile, Asian manufacturing production decreased by 20% during these 40 years. By 1920, Europe’s share in manufacturing production had increased by another 5% and reached 50% of the total production. In the same year, Asian share in the total production was just 20%. In 1960, Europe and the rest of the world were the biggest manufacturers and together achieved 76% of the total production. Asia’s share in manufacturing production continued to increase after 1920 and by 2000, it was the biggest manufacturer all over again.

Overall, the three regions experienced massive fluctuation in the total manufacturing production during the 160-year period. Notably Asia was the leader in the manufacturing production in 1840 regained its position in 2000 after a period of fluctuation. As the graph shows, Asia was the leader in the total manufacturing production in 1840 contributing 50% to the total. Manufacturing production declined in Asia over the next 80 years and in 1920, Asia produced only 20% of the total goods. Afterwards, manufacturing production in Asia started increasing again and in year 2000, it was the leading manufacturer again contributing 45% of the total. Regarding Europe, its contribution was 40% in 1840. It grew steadily to 50% in 1920 leading the world the manufacturing production. Thereafter it plunged to 28% in 2000. Meanwhile, the rest of the world contributed to only 10% of the total manufacturing production in 1840. It witnessed an upward trend and climbed significantly to about 37% in 1960. At that point, production in Europe and the rest of the world was the same. Then it dropped to about 32% in 2000 and occupied the second position amongst the three regions.
