Band 7.5 IELTS essay sample

There is a popular belief that it is the influence of advertising rather than actual need that fuels buying these days. I fully agree with this view. Adverts are everywhere and they are powerful enough to trick customers into buying event those things they do not really need.

First and foremost, in recent years because of the advancement of the technology, advertising industry has taken a new turn. They boost their product sale by showing their items several times to the customer, once they have searched for it on the internet. This is because of the availability of a variety of platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. This incessant targeting makes people do unnecessary shopping. In addition, companies offer discount and tag their product as limited in stock and that indirectly raises / increases the product sale among the society.

Secondly, the advertising industry hires famous celebrities as brand ambassadors and that influences individuals to buy their premium products. For example, M.S Dhoni endorses Nike brand. This has increased the sale of Nike products as M.S. Dhoni has huge fan following all over India. Fitness products advertised by him has tremendous impact on the brand sale. People become emotionally attached to the brand and buy regardless of whether they need that product or can afford it.

To conclude, I completely agree with the argument that nowadays more than the need, it is the art of advertising that attracts buyers. Adverts convince people that they need to own certain products and they foolishly fall into the trap.
