An increasing number of couples around the world are taking the decision not to have kids. In my opinion, childless couples can have a more financially stable life; however, they may face many problems when they reach their retirement age.

The foremost benefit of not having children is the availability of disposable income. The cost of raising a child has surged during the last few decades and it has become very difficult to manage the school fees, healthcare costs & other expenses related to kids. Without the responsibility of children, couples can have more financial freedom. A research paper published in the Wall Street Journal reported that American couples without kids had 60% more savings than those who had at least one or more kids to raise.

However, there are also a few drawbacks to this trend. The most significant problem is that when the couples grow old, they lack the emotional and financial support. It is very common that the kids support their old parents financially and spend time taking care of them. Such assistance is not available to the people who decide to live their lives without children. It impacts the satisfaction and happiness of these people. For instance, a survey carried out by Harvard University claimed that the Americans living without children are 65% more likely to face depression and anxiety.

In conclusion, although the lack of kids can provide an opportunity to have more financial savings, there are negative consequences. Couples without children tend to have less satisfied life after the retirement age because there is nobody to take care of them.

A rising global trend is the decision of married couples not to have children. This trend is associated with some benefits and some drawbacks. Some of the advantages include population control and decreased personal commitments. The disadvantages include emotional dissatisfaction and lack of support in old-age.

People are opting not to have children due to the immediate short-term gains which help them immensely to establish themselves in their career. Most of the people are inclined towards ascending to greater heights of success in their profession and wish to have reduced responsibilities in their personal lives. For such people, having children becomes a hindrance for the professional growth. Consequently, they decide not to have children to have a smooth and carefree life. Additionally, in some countries there is an increasing problem of population explosion. So, people feel that they are duty-bound to extend their cooperation in overcoming the problem. Due to this, they decide not to have children which significantly helps in reducing the growth of population.

The decision of not having children has certain drawbacks which become apparent in the later years of the couple. In young age, they are busy in their career but as they reach middle-age, an emotional vacuum is felt. They lack contentment and satisfaction in spite of having a good financial position. In extreme cases, a psychological imbalance is created which proves to be detrimental for the relationship between the couple. Additionally, the couples who do not have children may suffer in old-age. They have to depend upon support from the government to help them with their medical and emotional needs.

In conclusion, I feel that the decision of not having children has certain short-term benefits which seem to be appealing in the young age for the married couple. In the later years, the same decision has serious repercussions which have damaging effects on the well-being of the couple.
