Band 8 IELTS essay sample
Some people argue that online shopping is getting more and more popular nowadays and the brick and mortar shops are no longer relevant. However, I disagree with that argument. Although high street shops now are not as popular as they were in the past, they are still needed for many reasons.
It is undeniably true that online shopping has significantly impacted the business of street shops negatively. Alibaba, for instance, has become the most popular online shopping platform in the world. The company recently hit $100 billion in revenue) and became one of the largest establishments in the world. This is because e-commerce is so convenient that everything that we need to buy is just one click away, and the item will be delivered to our door step. However, the disadvantage of buying things online is that it may get very disappointing when the products delivered do not meet our expectation. As a result, we will have to return it through courier service, and this will become very time consuming. Hence, this channel is not suitable for items that are needed urgently.
By contrast, when we buy from a highway store we can check the quality of the product in person and thus ensure that it meets our requirements. For example, some buyers prefer to touch the products before purchasing them. This is especially true when those are luxury goods as they need to ensure that the items are free of defect before paying for them. Also, when we buy from an actual store, we can take the products home immediately. But when we buy online we may have to wait days or even weeks before the product to arrive. High street shops also serve as a place to hang out with friends or family.
In conclusion, although online shopping has threatened the survival of brick and mortar stores, I believe that they will not close down because there are still many people who want to physically check the quality of the product before making the purchase. Also, online shopping is not suitable if we need the product immediately.

Technology and internet alter the people’s lives in many aspects. One of the most significant changes which has been produced with the emerge of internet is shopping ways. Different brands application and hypermarkets websites attract the attentions of a huge number of peoples. Online shopping has been becoming very popular rapidly among customers. It is believed that online shopping will affect the future of street shops. In my point of view, the online shop could not replace the street shops. The convincing reasons why the online shopping will not result in the street shop extinction will be discussed in this essay.
Although the online shopping can save time and money by providing online free shipping services, but this type of shopping is not practical when you have not had enough time to wait until receiving the purchased items. Imagine a situation in which you have invited to a birthday party and your gift should be being ready in 3 hours while it takes 2 to 10 working days for the gift to be arrived. In such a situation you have to go to street shops and buy the products you want.
Moreover, online shopping can result in receiving a product with considerable differences to the image on the shopping websites or inappropriate size which can make the product unsalable. So, many people prefer to buy what ever they need from shops instead of online websites. I myself bought some clothes online last month which I recognize were big for me after receiving.
To sum up, although online shopping provides a great number of advantages including time and money saving for people, but the drawbacks of online shopping can be experienced when you have not had enough time or when the picture of the product differ from the real one. So, the street shop can not be replaced by the online shops.
This seems band 6.5 to me. Work on your grammar.
The popularity of online shopping among people is increasing at an unprecedented scale. It is a general belief that this will diminish the high street shops in the near future. In my opinion, although e-commerce offers a wide range of choices to customers but the traditional shops have significant importance.
Every online shopping website has a large collection of models of a single product. Therefore, People’s tendency to buy the products which are unique in the design attract them towards the online shopping platforms. This result in, street markets are losing their value since they do have a limited variety of products. For example, a survey has revealed that around 80% of mobile phones are sold on shopping websites like Amazon, Flipkart since they stock all variants of the latest cellphones. Though, these websites lack product assurance on delivery. There are many incidents when customers have received broken and defected products from these platforms and they had to pay shipping charges to get replacement of these products.
Street markets do offer many benefits to people. Firstly, They provide better satisfaction to customers by allowing them to check the quality of the product on time of placing an order. For instance, a buyer can test all the functionality such as camera, audio quality and screen touch on purchasing it from a verified show room. In addition to this, it is very convenient to purchase products such as kitchen grocery, vegetables from nearby rather than waiting for a parcel. Moreover, shopping is a fun activity for many people and only street’s shops can full fill this desire of them. This also increases the interaction among the people that makes society more sociable.
In conclusion, I believe that while online shopping offers customers with a plethora of variants of a product but street markets have their own values that can not be replaced any other mode of shopping.
