There is no doubt that women’s position in many societies has changed a lot in the last 50 years. But still these countries cannot claim to have gender equality. I agree with this, as in today’s developed societies, still there is pay gap between genders and most of the big posts go to men instead of women.

No doubt / undoubtedly, female participation / women’s participation in the workforce and government has increased significantly and so has her overall position in the society. But still these nations have not reached gender equality as there is pay gap between male and females. Many studies have shown that females get 25-30% less salary compared to men for the same position and experience in the company.

Adding to it, men are always preferred for higher positions in different organisations. This is because many employers still believe that women have to take care of children and household things along with work. Thus, their ability to pay full attention to the job is often doubted. Also due to their child bearing responsibilities many women are forced to take career breaks which push them back in the corporate ladder. For example, one of my friends had to take 9 months’ of leave after giving birth to her baby. When she returned, her position was already taken up by someone and she was offered a lower position in the same organisation.

To sum up, even though women’s position has changed in society to a great extent still there is no gender equality. Societies need to solve the problem of pay gap and give equal opportunities to women in higher positions, before they can claim to have achieved gender equality.
