The pie charts give information regarding the various sources of energy in France and the percentage of energy obtained from each one of them in the years 1995 and 2005. Overall, it can be seen that coal was the most significant source of energy in both the years whereas ‘others’ was the least important source. Petrol was the second most important source of energy in 1995 but its contribution declined in 2005. In 1995, 29.8% of energy in France was generated from coal. In 2005, coal contributed 30.93% of the total energy generated. Meanwhile gas was the second largest source of energy in 1995. Its contribution also increased from 29.63% in 1995 to 30.31% in 2005. Nuclear sources accounted for 6.40% of the total energy in 1995. Other sources collectively generated 4.5 percent of energy. In 2005, these two sources generated 10.1% and 9.1% respectively. In short, while coal and gas remained the most important sources of energy in both the years, petrol lost some of its share to nuclear and other sources.
