Band 7 IELTS essay sample

The Internet is the most influential invention of modern times. Although it has drastically changed the way we live it has also created so many problems that did not occur before. In this essay, I will explain the serious problems caused by the net and suggest solutions to tackle this issue.

Technology infiltrated all minds and it is responsible for two dangerous problems. To begin with, it weakens relationships. To be more precise, people are interested in interacting online rather than participating in community activities. Consequently, there are no longer relationships in society. As a result of this, society is becoming fragmented and disjointed. For example, youngsters do not find time to spend with their family, instead of this, they make new friends on social media with people they have never met before or will meet in the future. This behavior affects relationships. In addition to this, it is the main cause of various health problems. When online users stare at the screen for long hours it affects their eyesight and increases anxiety and stress. Those people also suffer from fatigue, migraine, and backache. Hence, the Internet causes the deterioration of social bonds and health.

There are, however, two potential solutions that are essential to alleviate the problem caused by the cyberspace. Firstly, all members of a family should avoid phones for a while and utilize this time for sharing their today’s experiences. During this time, they should turn off the notifications and resist the urge to check their screens so often. This would strengthen their blood relationships and also facilitate better communication among family members. For instance, at a meal break, there should be no phones. Parents should keep their cell phones away and demonstrate how children should conduct themselves in social situations. Secondly, the government should be organizing awareness programs regarding the dire consequences of excessive use of the net. Such campaigns may deter them from the overuse of the Internet.

In conclusion, in this digital era, all generations are deeply influenced by this new technology. It affects the way we interact in our daily life and our health. In order to solve this problem, people should limit their use of the internet and ensure that in addition to virtual relationships they have real relationships too.
