The invention of the computer and the internet is one of the biggest achievements of technology. While it has become a part of our day to day life by enabling us to share, store and analyze the information, it has also created some issues. This essay will discuss problems associated with the internet and provide solutions for the same.

The major drawbacks of the internet are huge increase in the number of cyber crimes and loading of false information on it. Lack of adequate knowledge about how to secure online information can be very dangerous sometimes. This can be explained by online money laundering scams managed by professional hackers who are extremely good at keeping no trace of crime performed. Punjab National Bank scam is a very good example of internet fraud. Similarly, people reading false information over the internet are easily misled into believing something which is not rational and this / it can affect an individual very badly. For example, one of my friends read about a diet and exercise program online and started following it. Soon after that she started having issues of hypertension and severe backache. So it is extremely necessary to control the information present on the internet.

Improvement of cyber security along with basic awareness programs to prevent cyber crimes needs to be a part of government initiative. For example, face recognition or retinal scan for digital transactions and no sharing of security pin with anybody can prevent these attacks to a certain extent.  People should be made aware of the dangers of sharing their personal information and account details with others. Thorough scrutinisation under strict laws should be done for all the information on the internet. Information without proof or evidence needs to be removed and banned from digital database under cyber law enforcement.

The internet is a miracle baby of technology. Though it has tremendous advantages, one cannot ignore serious problems associated with it. There are some solutions mentioned above which can control these problems.

Over the past two decades, the advancement in the field of IT technology has revolutionized the way people acquire and spread information all over the world. It is common nowadays to see many problems related to widespread availability of the internet. This essay shall delve into the problems caused by the internet, and will put forward measures to mitigate the problems.

There are many negative aspects to the omnipresence of the internet. Firstly, due to the assistance of the internet, users can easily access the information anytime. But the credibility of that information is unknown. In other words, it can be seen that most of the pieces of information on the internet are unreliable and not trustworthy. To cite an example, recently there were some Youtube videos which claimed that North Korean leader Mr. Kim had died, but in reality, he is still alive. Secondly, the younger generation are constantly distracted by social media apps such as Twitter and Facebook, where teenagers post photos to keep their status up-to-date. This results in the loss of the teen’s valuable time which otherwise could have been spent on studying or doing something more productive. Hacking, phishing and identity theft are some other problems caused by the internet and in many cases, they have devastating consequences. Lastly, cyber-bullying is another crucial problem which cannot be overlooked. Not only young people but celebrities are also are victims of cyberbullying and trolling, causing depression and anxiety issues, and even suicides in some cases.  Obviously, the internet has created many problems.

On the bright side, several steps can be taken to alleviate these problems.  First and foremost, everyone must perform a thorough scrutiny of the information source before accepting it. This way people will be able to filter out the fake news and articles. The second solution is that people, especially younger generations, should strike a balance between screen time and their work, so they complete work/studies and be more productive. Parents can play a vital role in ensuring that their children are not going astray by keeping a tab on their online activities. Last but not least, cyber police should constantly keep track of any issues related to cyber-bullies and must perform swift investigation and take concrete steps to discontinue such activity. What is more, parents should have an open communication with their children, so if they are victims of such fiendish acts, they can seek immediate help.

In conclusion, a plethora of problems can be linked to the internet. Nevertheless, I am convinced that the aforementioned solutions can definitely ameliorate the problem.
