With the advancement in technology and internet, information is readily accessible to everyone in any part of the world. Although internet has certain benefits such as providing knowledge and enhancing lives, there are some drawbacks to this which should be taken into account.
On the one hand, there are a number of advantages to making knowledge freely available. Firstly/first, children can study courses online and gain significant benefits. It is now possible in enrol in courses offered by reputed foreign universities sitting at home. Online classes are immensely beneficial for people who have difficulty attending classes in person. They are also considerably cheap. The internet keeps us stay connected. We receive up to the moment information about happenings around the world on our mobile. We can learn just about any skill online – be it coding, cooking, painting or dancing. We can also learn languages.
On the other hand, there are some major disadvantages. One of the potentially dangerous drawbacks is that people use technology to hurt other people. For instance, terrorist outfits often use the internet to spread their propaganda of hatred. Even political parties are known to manipulate the electorate by spreading misleading information. Another disadvantage is that a great deal of information found online is fake or harmful and there is no easy to check whether what we have stumbled upon is true or false.
In conclusion, the easy availability of free information on the internet has enriched people’s lives by enabling them to stay informed of their surroundings and gain valuable skills and qualifications from the comforts of their home. However, when information is free for all, there is also the risk of it getting misused.
