The inception of ecommerce has changed the modes of shopping tremendously over the last couple of decades. Some people believe that this trend will eventually make real shops vanish. However, this essay does not agree with this assertion.
First and foremost, generally, people that rely more on online shopping are youngsters. They are used to this since their childhood and has made their life more convenient. However, a lot of older or even middle-aged people are still not aware of the ecommerce websites due to their lack of exposure to technology and modern gadgets. Therefore, for them the only way to purchase commodities is to go for a window shopping. Moreover, some people, no matter what age group they belong to, refuse to buy goods online as they cannot ensure the quality.
Apart from the age group of consumers, one of the significant factors that contributes to the existence of real shops is the urgency of goods. That means, people of any age will never depend on ecommerce to fulfil emergency needs because this would normally take days to complete the delivery. People buy emergency services, for instance, medicines from the nearby shops even though there are myriad of online platforms to serve this purpose. Moreover, the domestic needs are usually fulfilled by local grocery shops that are the backbone of local economy.
To conclude, though the ecommerce platforms have significant merits, the role of local shops cannot be overlooked. The importance of them in serving the immediate needs will never fade by the day.
