The bar graph compares the percentage of contribution of various areas – industries, self- employment, service sector and agriculture – to the economy in India in the years 1950, 1970 and 1990. Overall, the different sectors showed striking changes in their contribution in different years. The area that contributed the most in a period became negligible in another year. In 1950, Agriculture played the major role in economy sector with a contribution of 35%. However, in the further years, it showed a dramatic decline reaching just 10% in 1990. The area whose contribution underwent a sharp six-fold rise was self-employment, from just over 6% in 1950 to 36% in 1990, becoming the major economic sector of the year. One of the other areas apart from Agriculture that showed a drop in its role in economy was service sector, declined to 7% in 1990 from 26% in 1950. Industries sector showed its part in 1970 with a proportion of 26%. Moreover. Moreover, contribution of all the areas was equally significant in 1970.
