The diagram shows the various processes involved in the production of five different types of tea. It starts with the plucking of tea leaves. When tea leaves are ready for processing, they are plucked. These leaves are then subjected to wilting or withering. The withered tea leaves are then steamed, rolled and oven-dried to produce green tea. White tea is produced by simply oven-drying withered tea leaves. No other processes are involved in its production. In order to produce oolong tea, the withered tea leaves are rolled, slightly fermented and then oven dried. The production of large leaf black tea involves the following steps. The withered tea leaves are first rolled, then they are fully fermented and then oven dried. Instead of rolling, the production of small leaf black tea involves crushing. Other processes are the same time. The crushed tea leaves are fully fermented and oven dried to produce small leaf black tea.

The diagram explains how different types of teas are produced using tea leaves / using the same ingredient – tea leaves. Overall, it can be seen that Oolong tea, large leaf black tea and small leaf black tea undergo seven processing stages while green tea, and white tea involve six and four stages respectively. The first three processes – leaf growth, plucking, withering- and the last stage – oven drying – are common to all kinds of teas. The beginning stages involve growing tea leaves then plucking them out, and allowing them to wither to remove excess moisture, and the final step is to dry the leaves in an oven. White tea is produced by following the aforementioned processes / the processes mentioned above. Additional steps of steaming and rolling are done after the withering stage to produce green tea. The next tea type, Oolong tea, does not involve steaming; the leaves are rolled and made to undergo slight fermentation before the drying stage. However, in the case of Large and Small leaf black tea, the withered leaves are crushed and fully fermented before they are oven dried.
