This diagram depicts the man-made process through which electricity is generated thanks to water. Overall, this process can be outlined in a number of consecutive steps, beginning with the use of the river’s flow and culminating in the supply of the national grid. Firstly, a high level reservoir delimited by a dam controls the river’s water flow. Indeed, the intake is opened during the day and closed at night, which allows alternatively to either generate electricity or pump water. Electricity is created when the turbines are employed to operate the generators of the power station, while the water used during the process is filling the low-level reservoir. That way, power lines will be able to supply the national grid with electricity. By contrast, at night, the turbines are used to pump water from the low-level reservoir back to the high level reservoir. This circular process enables the water to be reused and thus, keep producing energy during the day.
