The diagram shows the process of electricity generation in a hydro electric power station. The water from the river is collected in the high-level reservoir by building a dam across, from there the water flows to the power station to generate electricity through a small intake at the bottom of the dam which is open during the day and closed during the night. In the power station there is a reversible turbine which is connected to the generator and the generator is then connected to the power lines. The function of the reversible turbines is to operate the generator during the day, and the water is then flown to a low level reservoir. During the night, the water from the low-level reservoir is pumped out to the high level reservoir with the help of the reversible turbine. Overall, the generation of electricity is a complex cycle, which starts with the inward flow of water to the power station during the day and ends with the outward flow to the high level reservoir during the night.
