The Best Way To Solve The World’s Environmental Problems Is To Increase The Cost Of Fuel

cost of fuel and environmental problems

Sample essay

Nowadays, environmental damage has become a pressing issue. Some people believe that increasing fuel price will help to reduce environmental destruction. However, I do not agree with this view due to numerous reasons.

It is true that industries and vehicles are important causes of air pollution because they burn fossil fuel. However, increasing the price of fuel is not the solution. It is now impossible to even imagine a life without fuel. Industries and modern transport systems cannot work without fuel and hence even if fuel prices are increased, people will continue to use it. At the same time, the hike in fuel price will lead to inflation and cause numerous hardships to poor and middle class people. Needless to say, this is a stupid measure that will have consequences for almost everyone.

What’s more, the burning of fossil fuels is not the only cause of environmental damage. There are lots of other reasons too and one of them is deforestation. Large areas of forest lands are cleared for residential, commercial and agricultural purposes. Deforestation leads to harmful consequences like flooding, soil erosion and loss of wildlife. Careless and excessive use of plastic is another major cause of environmental degradation. Plastic does not decompose and hence it stays on land and water for centuries if not millennia. It affects the fertility of soil and causes ocean animals to choke on it. Ewaste is another thing damaging the environment. Hence, rather than increasing the cost of fuel, the government should take other measures to mitigate environmental damage. One of them is to promote green sources of energy. Another solution is to promote eco-friendly alternatives for plastic. Promoting recycling and limiting thoughtful consumption of resources are other ways to save the environment.

To conclude, reversing environmental damage is the need of the hour. However, the argument that increase in the price of fuel will reduce environmental damage does not hold much water as fuel is essential to sustain our modern life and the hike in price will not reduce its consumption . To reduce detrimental effects on the environment people should move towards eco-friendly sources of energy and adopt a greener lifestyle.
