The curriculum is designed by experts and academicians keeping in mind the need of the times. Some people argue that the curriculum should teach the students to cope with change. In other words the curriculum should change with the times. Outdated or useless information and knowledge should be eliminated and useful knowledge should be added to it. I agree with this view.
The main objective of learning is to acquire skills that help us cope with the challenges of our life. That means the curriculum should teach us the skills required to earn a livelihood. At the same time, it should equip us with relevant knowledge in all other spheres of life. For example, learning history is essential to avoid making past mistakes. Likewise, a decent understanding of geography is helpful while traveling. It is equally important for students to development a scientific temperament. So, of course, the static body of knowledge is definitely important and should be taught.
Even so, in both history and science, some points become irrelevant over the years. For example, the aspirations of nations may change over time. In this case, it does not make much sense for them to teach history that does not promote those new aspirations. Likewise, in science, it is no longer necessary to have too many lessons about incandescent lamps or old computers that occupied large rooms. Those technologies are no longer used, but they are still in the textbooks. Similarly, in computer, there is no a need to learn old programming languages now. Hence, in my opinion, the focus should be on new advancements that are helpful right now. This does not mean that old knowledge and technologies should not be taught at all. They should be taught but the focus must be on what is relevant right now.
To conclude, the best curriculum is designed in accordance with the need of the times. It should include old knowledge if it is still relevant. If it is not, it should be scraped and new information should be added to the curriculum.
