The given bar chart compares the number of male and female participants of four different adult education evening courses in 2009, while the pie chart provides the age distribution of people attending these courses in the same year. It is clear that in most of the courses, the number of female participants is higher than the number of male participants. At the same time, people aged 50 or over accounted for the largest percentage of the participants. From the perspective of gender, except for the sculpture course, all the other courses had more female participants than male participants. In drama and language courses, the number of female participants was twice that of male participants. By contrast, in sculpture course, there were only approximately 5 female participants, which was half of the number of males. In general, more women participated in evening courses in 2009. In the pie chart, merely 5% of participants in evening courses were aged under 20. People aged 50 or over occupied the largest proportion, which was 42%. Middle-aged people, who are aged between 30-39 and 40-49, together accounted for the same percentage as those who are aged 50 or over. To be specific, they took 26% and 16% of participants respectively.
