Band 8 IELTS Essay Sample

It is often argued that the health conditions of a person will gradually degrade in the coming years. I tend to agree with this statement, because people are majorly relying on outside food and our air is too polluted for us to breathe it.

Due to the increase in competition between various sections of the society, most people are under tremendous job pressure and can hardly take out time to cook food at home. Moreover, with easy access to various online food ordering options, many people like to order unhealthy and oily food as per their choice and this could adversely affect their health. For example, the famous home delivery option, Pizza Hut is open 24 hours and promises to deliver food in just 30 minutes. Such facilities attract the working population. Even if people decide to cook at home, the fruits and vegetables sold in the markets are laced with pesticides. As a result, many people are prone to developing health issues such as obesity and high cholesterol level.

Environmental degradation is another factor that affects the health of people. Our environment is seriously polluted by the emission of poisonous gases from factories or from vehicles. Hence, the air we breathe is highly polluted and can affect various parts of the body, because, in the process of breathing contaminated oxygen is supplied to all organs of the human body, exposing them to serious organ failures. For example, according to a recent study conducted in India by expert environmentalists, 70% of the population has traces of carbon monoxide in their body, which can lead to several serious breathing ailments.

To conclude, it is rightly said that in the coming years, most people will not be able to sustain an average healthy life. As explained above the reasons for this could be pollution and unhealthy lifestyle of people.

Health, as we know, is the greatest wealth one can possess. Event though man can boast of advancements in technology and every other field, his health has taken a nose dive and it just does not seem to go anywhere else but down. 44

We can attribute this worrying trend to a number of reasons. First and foremost is the food we eat and the water we drink. There is no debate about the fact that is nearly impossible to find fruits and vegetables that are pesticide-free; not to mention the contaminated water that we consume, especially the city dwellers. We have become so greedy about the natural resources available to us that we ourselves have become its greatest enemies. For instance, Plachimada is a small village situated towards the southern part of Kerala, India, where coca cola has set up its bottling plant, exploiting the water resources and even nearly exhausting the water supply. This factory has dried up the water sources in the nearby villages forcing the local people to depend on water bodies contaminated by the factory. 126

Another major reason why there is no light at the end of the tunnel is the fact that people today are leading a sedentary life style where either there is no time for any physical activities or the importance of it completely neglected. As per a survey conducted by the Kerala government, the number of people suffering from life style deceases such as diabetes or hypertension has witnessed a double fold increase all thanks to the mechanical and inactive life that we live today. Needless to say, even small children are victims of life style deceases now a days, which was almost unheard of the recent past. 108
I conclusion, it is true that the world health has taken turn for the worse today and for which we do not see any respite in the near future either. 28
