The salaries of sports professionals are much higher than those of people in other professions. Some believe that this is the right approach, whereas others consider this to be unjustifiable. In my opinion, there should not be a significant difference between the earnings of sports people and other professionals.
Those who support the high earnings of sports professionals claim that the sports stars should earn high salaries because they are under constant pressure to perform. In addition to this, they are highly skilled people who bring name and fame for the country. Talented sports men and women can even enhance the reputation of their country by winning international championships. Yet, there is no justification for giving them astronomical salaries especially since their contribution for improving the lives of their fellow people is negligible.
On the other hand, there are other professions such as teaching and medicine which are even more important than sports. The amount of money one makes should be equivalent to the value of service one provides to the society. Teachers play an important role in imparting knowledge and shaping the character and personality of children. Similarly doctors work tirelessly to save precious lives. These professionals should earn high salaries because of their valuable services. But this is not the case. For example, the annual salary of a teacher is less than the single match fee of cricketers in India. This cannot be justified in any way.
To conclude, I believe that a huge gap in the salaries of sportspersons and other professionals is neither fair nor healthy and hence the government should enact policies to narrow this pay gap. The government should raise the salaries of other valuable professions and meanwhile collect higher taxes from sports professionals to ensure balance in the society.

Some famous sportspersons’ annual income is greater than the GDP of a few countries. Although many do not have any problem with their salary / remuneration, others vehemently believe that they are over paid and their incomes are unjustified. Both views will be discussed in this essay.
To begin with, these celebrities are paid handsome amounts because they possess extraordinary skills. In order to attain mastery in their game most of them, if not all, start honing their skill at an early age. Indeed, cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, for instance, started playing when he was 5 years old. In addition to this, many of these athletes bring accolades to the nation / their nation when they compete at the international level. If a country’s pride depends on their spectacular performance, they fully deserve to earn a lot of money.
On the other hand, some people opine that it is unfair to pay a handful of talented persons heavily because, they think, there are a lot of other professionals who are equally hardworking and skilful. For example, doctors have to be extremely skilled and work gruelling schedules. Yet, they earn much less than a cricketer or footballer. While this might seem unfair to a lot of people, in my opinion, it is not possible to pay doctors or teachers as much as athletes even though they are more important for the society. First, doctors do not generate much money. If they have to be paid astronomical salaries, healthcare will become unaffordable to people. We cannot permit this to happen. Also, only a handful of sportspersons earn huge salaries and that too because the success of events like Olympics or World Cups depends on their performance. Such events generate billions of dollars in revenue. There is no harm in sharing a fraction of that revenue with these people who make these events successful.
In conclusion, if successful sportspersons earn huge amounts of money, it is because they generate even more money. A person’s income depends on the amount of money they can generate. Teachers or doctors cannot earn as much as athletes because they do not generate much money.
