Band 6.5 IELTS essay sample

Every year huge amount of money is spent on various research programms, especially space explorations. There are pros and cons both associated with this type of spending.

One of the major advantages of exploring space is an opportunity to identify other planets in the solar system as habitable as earth. Due to the depletion of earth’s natural resources scientists are working to find an alternative planet were human beings can survive. For instance, consumption of resources like petroleum and natural gas is increasing day by day, and we may soon run out of their supply. Hence, it is of utmost importance to find a place where humans can continue their existence.

Nevertheless, there are some drawbacks to using a major portion of tax payers’ money on space explorations, when it can be diverted for the betterment of the society. Firstly, a country’s infrastructure can be developed using these resources; better hospitals can be built which will have modern technologies and equipments. This will enable the citizens to receive better treatment in their own country. Secondly, housing can be provided to the homeless and needy. Government can build dwellings on barren lands and provide shelter especially to the ones who spend their nights in the streets or railway stations.

To conclude, it is clearly evident from the aforementioned paragraphs that spending huge chunks of money on space explorations has its own benefits and drawbacks. However, too much spending will always be an issue as that sum can be diverted for the better living of human beings.
