Band 8 IELTS essay sample
Offices are no longer the only workplaces. Actually, many employees now consider working from home as a better option. In my opinion, this development has advantages and disadvantages in equal measure.
To begin with, many employees are availing of the work from option because it eliminates the need to travel. In addition to that, corporate companies can save a lot of money by offering work from home option to employees. For example, when businesses encourage employees to work from home, they can save money on rentals, utility bills, furniture and other equipment. Another advantage is that when more and more people work from home, the traffic situation will improve because there will be fewer vehicles on the road. This, in turn, will improve air quality.
On the other hand, working from home has a few / has some disadvantages. The main problem is that employees can feel demotivated. Many of them actually need someone to supervise their work. In the absence of that they will just become lazy. In addition, a separate room and a peaceful workplace are mandatory to perform well. Many people lack these facilities. Also, if people always work from home, they will not get any exercise and that can lead to health problems. If people are always sitting at home, they may also become bored or angry.
To conclude, working from home is a good option for employees who are disciplined and who have the right setup without any power issues or internet problems. In my opinion, the advantages of working from home all the time do not outweigh the disadvantages. Actually, it is better to have this option a couple of times a week.
Band 7.5 IELTS essay sample
Working and earning an income is essential for the survival of all people. However, travelling every day to the work place is tiring as well as time consuming. Some people believe that telecommuting is better for most workers as it has several benefits. In my opinion, work from home brings numerous professional and personal benefits which outweigh its drawbacks.
On the one hand, commuting consumes considerable time every day. In the modern world, every employee demands higher productivity in which every second counts. Therefore, telecommuting helps an employee to save time in terms of travelling. That extra time could be converted into productive work, especially in urban areas where traffic congestion is high and leads to time loss. For instance, the average commuting time for an employee in a metropolitan city like Mumbai, India is two hours. Had the employers allowed their workers to work from home, it would have increased their productivity by 20 percent since two hours of commute is considerably long for an 8-hour job in a day.
On the other hand, lack of face to face interaction at office would reduce professional development of an employee. Improving communication skills and other soft skills is crucial for career development and this is not possible when employees telecommute. Additionally, it is impossible to telecommute for people who work in manufacturing sector because their work needs to be monitored continuously. However, some professionals, like those in the Information technology sector, could enjoy the benefits offered by telecommuting since most of their project could be done from a remote location.
In conclusion, although telecommuting has some drawbacks, I believe that the additional time and flexibility offered by it is extremely beneficial for employees of certain job sectors. Despite the fact that telecommuting negatively affects the rapid professional development of an individual, it increases the productivity which employers enjoy the most.

The world is drastically changing everyday and it is clearly projected on our activities. People has already started to purpose a new way of employment which is working from home against our traditional method i.e. commuting to offices. I personally believe majority of workers should work from workplace although, there are few considerable benefits with employment from home.
Working from home has some clear benefits which is making it popular everyday. People could be benefited by flexible working hours and companies could save a huge amount on energy expenses. For instance, a recent research has suggested that, people those who does their job from home are relatively more happier than those who travel everyday, as they can spend more time with their families. Additionally, my previous company wanted to reduce their expenses, so they allowed workers to work from their residence for a month. As a result, that month’s electricity bill was reduced by 50%. Thus the suggestion of allowing workers to work from their house is quite reasonable.
On the contrary, if employees do not go to their workplace every day, the concequences can be dangerous for both staffs and employers. Limited resources, lack of counseling and limited feedback can affect the output of the work. For example, an employee cannot afford many work related equipment by himself or a company cannot buy expensive equipment for each employee: which limits the work efficiently. Similarly, staff and employer will not have adequate amount of work related question answer which might directly reflect on their product and business will go down. Therefore, employer and employee should always stay in touch as much as they can.
In conclusion, while employee should always stay in touch with their workplace to get the best outcome from their potential, some merits of working from home should not be underestimated. Although flexible working hours and saved finances on energy can be plus points but, I believe difficulties at work and unsatisfying outcome will outweigh its benifits.
This seems band 6.5 to me. There are several grammar mistakes in your writing. Make sure that your verbs agree with their subjects. That means you need a plural verb with a plural subject and a singular verb with a singular subject.
Teleworking is considered to be more beneficial than working from office by some people. In my view, it indeed has numerous merits which offset the demerits when compared to going to office daily.
On the one hand, telecommuting enables us to complete the tasks assigned to us, by scheduling them as per our flexibility that in turn will reduce the stress as well as improve our work performance. For instance, when compared to previous results, a recent survey in Mumbai revealed a 20 % increase of profit percentage during the last year. Moreover, since travelling to work is time consuming because of traffic congestion, it would not only save a lot of time but also avoid the exposure to environmental pollution if we could work from home.
On the other hand, in spite of having these advantages, teleworking also have some drawbacks. There is a high chance of employers demanding to increase working hours in addition to attending the mandatory meetings at late nights which disrupts the harmony of personal life. For example, 50 % of the employees working in one of the most prestigious company in a metropolitan city have been suffering from psychological disorders like anxiety and depression for a few months. Furthermore, lack of face-to-face interaction with peers and subordinates might induce some trouble in managing them to complete a project within the deadline even if we have talent and excellent rapport with the team.
To conclude, despite having a few challenges, the advantages of working from home certainly outweighs the disadvantages. Although
This seems band 6.5 to me.
It goes without saying that pandemics or traffic problems can pose a threat to people’s health and safety. For commuters, this is literally challenging and even put them off their work. Thus, it is argued by some people that most employees would get benefits from home-working rather than commuting to their workplace. Personally, although I believe the advantages of this are far more prominent, the drawbacks should not be underestimated.
It is clear that there are a lot of advantageous aspects when it comes to working at home. The biggest benefit is freedom. If staff work at their company, for example, they have to comply with strict regulations such as arriving on time every day. By this I mean, some employees may get stuck in traffic jam and have difficulty doing this. Another significant advantages is that telecommuting allows people to work under less pressure than performing tasks at workplaces. Obviously, when working from home, people are given opportunities to set their own schedule, in other words, they will carry out their work whenever they are comfortable and energetic. This would make productivity soar rapidly and strengthen workers’ commitment to work.
However, in-house working also triggers some negative impacts. To be more specific, this will lead to a sense of isolation. In effect, home-based working mitigate real interaction between colleagues or between staff and their managers. To some ways, this make people feel isolated and lack of closeness with each other. Moreover, telecommuting prevents people from developing vital social skills, especially communication skills, while contacting face-to-face cultivates these abilitites. Nevertheless, due to the booming of advanced technology, these shortcomings can be tackled, and it is possible to be more and more creative when doing off-site work.
To conclude, it seems to me that telecommuting has double folds, but its advantages partially surpass the disadvantages. If people know how to utilize its positive points, it would be really beneficial. Nevertheless, it is also essential to work together in person.
