Band 7.5 IELTS essay sample
Nowadays, the government has been spending a large amount of money on the arts. Some people think that this expenditure is wasteful as there are more important areas. In my opinion, it is important to improve other public services; however, the art sector cannot be ignored.
To commence with, public services such as hospitals, schools and parks play a vital role in the development of our society. Hospitals can provide better treatment to the poor at nominal fee, if the government concentrate on improving medical science. Similarly, our children will receive quality education if the government invests more funds in the educational sector. The development of public parks would provide necessary greenery and this would make the environment inhabitable. All these developments lead to / contribute to overall growth and increase living standards of the people. However, investment in other areas should not be at the expense of arts.
The arts provide ample entertainment to us through different forms such as dramas, theater, movies and exhibition. These also help people to relax from their hectic work schedule. Furthermore, artists can attract foreign tourists to a country. For instance, a singer’s live performance on a stage can draw the attention of myriads of people from different parts of the world. Thus, it boosts tourism and eventually the economic growth of their country. Therefore, it is important for the government to invest funds in fine arts.
To conclude, it is important that the government develop essential public services but arts should not be neglected. The government should invest a portion of tax payers’ money for the development of the arts.
