Band 7.5 IELTS essay sample
According to some people, parents should teach their children how to become a good member of our society, while others assert that school is the place to learn all these traits. In my opinion, it is the responsibility of both school and family members. This essay will discuss both sides and elucidate my viewpoint.
To begin with, parents are the first teachers of their children. It is their responsibility to teach their children values such as honesty, empathy, kindness and respect. Besides this, an impressionable mind of a child emulates their parents’ actions and behaviour very quickly. They learn what they watch their parents are doing. For instance, I always help poor people by giving them food and clothes. Now watching me / seeing me, my daughter has also started giving her old toys to poor children; hence, it proves that parents can teach their children good qualities to become a useful part of our society.
On the other hand, schools are the second home of children where they spend substantial time with their peers of different culture and background. It makes them tolerant of differences which is an important quality to become a good member of our community. On top of this, nowadays, many parents do not spend much time with their children because of their jobs. For all those children the school serves as a boon by teaching them good manners.
In conclusion, both parents and teachers have an important role in teaching children values and manners. It is not possible to say whether one has a greater responsibility than the other.
