There is no doubt decision making process is a tough nut to crack. Some believe employee’s point of view should be considered, while others argue only managers should take independent decisions. In this essay, I will share both the views and provide supporting examples.
To begin with, the manager holds a leadership skill and takes the decision favourable to organization policies. And whenever a decision lies with the leader they consider variety of aspects such as organization values, team growth etc. And such decision benefits everyone. Perhaps, if employees are being involved in the discussions the opinion will always be one sided and might be in favour of them and will not be beneficial as a whole. For instance, whenever a task is allocated to an employee, the manager knows the strengths and capability of that person and accordingly decides. However, if team members are involved in the decision making then the decision would be partial, as they would choose the task based on the level of difficulty.
On the contrary, suggestions from the employees can be valuable and it would help in the team’s overall growth. It is important for a manager to hear feedbacks from their colleagues as it would help him to focus on the improvement areas. And the feedback taken into consideration would boost the morale of the employees and bring harmony. For example, whenever a process improvement needs to be done, a team leader will only be able to decide from their point of view but, if one listens to their employees feedback there is fair possibility that one might get a valuable suggestion which can be implemented.
In conclusion, even though employees involvement in decision is crucial, but in my opinion the manager alone should take the decision as they would take fair and right decision which would benefit all.
