Some people think that it is important to use leisure time for activities that improve the mind, such as reading and doing word puzzles. Other people feel that it is important to rest the mind during leisure time. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Some individuals contend that spare time should be spent on some healthy indoor activities such as reading and doing scrabble whereas others are inclined to the view that it is essential to rest without intentionally having any thoughts to recharge the mind. This essay will discuss both sides of this contentious argument and then I will give my own perspectives.

To begin with, reading and playing word games are effective ways for stress reduction. No matter how much stress we face in daily life, the stress may just slip away when we lose ourselves in a great story of a book or concentrate on solving the word puzzles. Reading helps to distract us from the tension we face and keeps us in the present moment.  In addition, these activities foster cognitive stimulation. Studies have shown that staying mentally active through activities such as reading and doing word puzzles preclude us from losing brain power and reduce the progress of Dementia. Just like any other muscle in our body, brain muscle needs to be exercised to stay active.

On the flip side, it is essential to not think about anything and give our mind some rest whenever we can. When we keep ourselves away from discursive thinking, it enhances our awareness and senses to engage with the surroundings without the burden to analyse every situation we observe and encounter. For instance, we always feel recharged and enter a state of peace and tranquillity when we rest our mind doing nothing especially after a busy day at work.

In conclusion, reading, solving word puzzles and keeping our mind free during leisure period bring merits to enhance the mind. Engaging in such activities is good for enhancing our creativity and cognitive skills. By contrast, resting the mind by doing nothing is a better way to beat stress.

    Leisure time play a significant role on human whole life as it is important for making mind free from life duties and challenges. It is believed by some people that leisure activities should capable of improving mind while others think these activities should have the potential for mind rest. These views and why we should achieve a balance between leisure activities will be discussed in this essay.
    There are a wide variety kind of activities that can be done in leisure time. Some of these activities do not need any thinking such as going to gym, going to clubs, picnicking, going to party and so on. These activities make our mind becoming fresh and having lots of fun. There are also many other leisure activities that can improve our mind such as reading books, playing board games, playing chess, learning new music instruments, solving sudoku. These activities can help us strengthening our mind by speeding up our minds response and improving memorization and thinking.
    All of leisure activities based on our personalities can make us enjoying our free time and having fun. As our mind is going to become weak over time, activities with the capability of delaying mind weakness and improving minds skills can help us experiencing healthier life in future. Beside this issue, making our mind free will help us to do our daily activities with more energy.
    To sum up, although leisure activities which can only make our mind free is important for our mental health and our efficiency in the future, doing activities with the capability of improving our mind is as important as other type of leisure activities. As a consequence, it is important to create a balance between different kind of leisure activities to have a healthy life.

    There are different views on how is better to use our free time. Some believes that we should not waste our leisure time and it is better to do some useful entertainment tasks which help to reinforce the mind, while others think leisure time is an opportunity for our minds to have a rest.
    Personally, I am part of the first group. In my opinion, our mind has 8 hours/ night to be refreshed when we are sleeping. So it is more sensible and logic to do something which is both fun and useful for our mind such as, playing chess, reading book or etc. In today’s’ competitive world, if we are pursuing success, definitely we must plan for every minute of our life in order to make and improve our capacity; otherwise we will stand at the end of success caravan.
    On the flip side, there is another group of people who think differently from what is stated above. They emphasis that leisure time is for us to give our mind a rest and justifying their view that if human being’s mind was capable of doing activities more than 8 hours/ day effectively, employers certainly would have increased the official hours. Thus, having a time for our mind relaxation will result on more productivity when it is time to work.
    To sum up, I think choosing what activity to do in our free time depends on people’s personality. Those who try to avoid hectic daily schedule, prefer to have more rest in free time and believe they will enjoy more with this life style. But, others who success is their dream and ambition want to use even their free time to improve their mind and think that achieving their dreams will give them a sense of ultimate enjoy.
