Some people argue that competitive attitude in children should be developed while others claim that teaching them how to cooperate with their peers will make them better adults. In my view, this is a sensitive issue to discuss, but I would prefer to have a competitive and a cooperative child, as the combination of these two qualities will help/benefit the child immensely.
Firstly, competing with your class mates will enhance your performance intellectually and physically. For example, having a class of students full of motivation, and the desire to score full marks, will lead to a better atmosphere in the class, and increase the level of education. Similarly, when it comes to sports, competitive attitude is crucial to attain / gain fame and success.
On the other hand, raising children with the spirit of co-operation and a willingness to give a helping hand to the needy ones will create a society full of charity. Also, it will decrease the number of crimes in that society. Teaching children how to deal with poor, injured, and handicapped people is an act of humanity. Conversely, a society full of selfish, greedy, and power-loving individuals will lead to moral collapse and a lot of social problems.
Therefore, in my opinion, teaching children how to cooperate with others has its benefits. Teaching them how to compete with others is equally important too. Only a competitive generation can propel the society to success. In my opinion, everyone needs to possess both qualities. The key is teaching when to cooperate and when to compete.
To conclude, every child should be taught to compete and cooperate. A child who can only cooperate may struggle in many areas of life. Likewise, a child who can only compete will grow into a greedy and selfish adult who has trouble getting on with others. Therefore, parents need to raise children with good attributes like willingness to help those who need it and readiness to compete with other contenders.
