According to some people, the government is responsible for conserving the environment while others insist that environmental protection is the duty of every individual. In my opinion, the environment can be protected only through the combined efforts of both individuals and governments.
It is undeniable that we are responsible for spoiling our environment because of our unawareness and consumerist lifestyle. For this reason, we all are responsible to protect our environment and not just the government. It can be saved by making minor changes to our lifestyle such as augmenting the use of public transport, disposing of waste properly and planting trees around our house. These are some of the ways for individuals to protect the environment.
On the other hand, the government has higher authority and power and hence it can play a greater role in protecting the environment. If governments are not taking appropriate action to protect our habitat / planet it may increase negativity among residents of their country. For instance, the government should not support any industry which produces a higher amount of harmful gases. At the same time, authorities should encourage industries to produce green energy from renewable sources such as solar and hydro energy. Furthermore, the government can make environment a subject in the primary school curriculum to spread awareness about protecting the environment. However, none of these measures will be effective if we do not become more responsible to secure our environment.
In conclusion, this essay states that people can take small steps to secure their habitat but the government has an even bigger role in protecting the environment. This is because environmental protection is a huge task that cannot be accomplished without the active involvement of both the government and the individuals.
