It is sometimes thought that a person’s clothing is enough to know their culture and character. Even though what we wear can at times resemble our customs and traditions, I do not agree with this thought. In my opinion, the culture and personality of people cannot be judged by their way of dressing.
With regards to culture, one can judge a person’s beliefs if you know where they belong to. This is because ideas and customs are generally instilled in a person due to the social behavior of the society, they live in. For instance, if a person visits a temple, they are asked to keep their footwear outside of the temple. However, if the same person visits a church, there is no objection to their footwear being inside or outside the church. This happens as a result of the difference in ideas of distinct societies, which has no relation to what type of clothing a person is used to.
Turning to the identification of a personality, one can do so if one knows them in person. A good or bad character can be judged in many ways such as good hygiene, helping nature, showing respect to one another, etc. To illustrate, a homeless person might have no piece of clothing to cover themselves, but they might help someone in need by sharing their food. This shows that having no clothes does not necessarily indicate a bad character and vice versa. Therefore, the kind of clothes a person wears should not be used as a factor to judge their personality.
In conclusion, the culture can be identified based on the person’s surroundings or area, whereas the character can be recognized by knowing them personally. To recapitulate, fashion sense or the selection of clothes should not be considered as a medium to talk about a person.
