According to some people, history as a major subject should be taught at school, while others opine that other subjects such as Science and Technology are more important than History. However, in my opinion, the importance of History cannot be underestimated both in the school curriculum and the lives of students.
Recent years have witnessed advancement in Technology and science because they play an essential role in many sectors of society, for example, health, economy, and so on. As a practical example, COVID-19 killed more than 5 million worldwide in the past two years. However, with the aid of scientists, an appropriate vaccine has developed, and the advancement in Technology has facilitated the production of ventilators on a large scale, saving the lives of hundreds of thousands of susceptible people.
On the other hand, History makes the foundation of a nation and conveys lots of experiences derived from thousands of wise older generations, which is vital to surviving. In other words, the wisdom and experience of our ancestors are always mattered, and their failures are full of advice that should be taken into consideration; for example, in our country, most of the previous kings made some wrong decisions, leading to failure in wars at the expense of missing our territories; thus, students in the present time should learn a lesson from them.
In conclusion, the need to include Science and Technology as a major subject in schools is
understandable, given their help in improving all aspects of society. However, if it is at the expense of reducing the value of History, it is potentially detrimental.
