We live in a world where we have to make a lot of important decisions. One of those essential decisions is to choose whether to rent a house or buy your own home. In my opinion, it is not appropriate to say that the former is more or less advantageous than the latter, for both alternatives have their own merits and demerits. While purchasing apartments allows for a stable life, living as a tenant makes moving a lot easier and needs less financial planning.
Buying an apartment may cause financial distress at first but cheap loans and parents’ help can make homes more affordable. Having our own house can give us a feeling of freedom as there are no limits to what we can or cannot do. We can freely modify our living space/ home with zero restrictions on anything. Even some studies have shown that people who own a house are happier than those who do not have one. However, it has some disadvantages too. For example, it is really difficult to move to a new place for a middle-class person as they already invested a lot of money in the house. It gets even harder for divorced partners to decide who gets the house.
Renting a home, on the other hand, provides us with a lot of opportunities. For example, renters can easily move to a new and better neighbourhood when their earnings increase and this is not possible for someone who invested a lot of money in a home. Research shows that people with PTSD suffered less when they moved to a new place. Hence, it is best for people with PTSD to rent accommodation. It is also suitable for people having a dynamic lifestyle. Just like the previous option, this one too has its own cons, one of them being a feeling of insecurity during tough financial situations. If we fail to pay rent, we get evicted, and we do not even have a place to live in situations like these.
In conclusion, it is hard to say whether renting is more beneficial than buying because it depends entirely on the unique situation of each family. Renting is ideal for people who have jobs that involve frequent transfers and those who have just started earning. Buying if more beneficial if you do not want to move to another place in the next twenty or thirty years and have enough savings to make the down payment.
