Band 8 IELTS essay sample

In this age of the internet and social media, paparazzi constantly follow celebrities around and capture their pictures with or without their permission. While some people deem this as a serious infringement of privacy, others see it merely as the cost of being popular. In this essay, I shall explore both sides of the argument and explain why I believe that it is inappropriate.

In the recent past, people have rightfully raised their concerns over privacy. Celebrities need their private moments too and the media are often insensitive to the emotional needs of these people. A famous personality is a human too and they have their moments of pain and sadness. For example, they may be going to attend a funeral or in some other state of distress. The media ambushing these people with cameras at this moment will only make them feel more miserable. For instance, a Bollywood actor was recently seen getting agitated at people for clicking pictures of him arguing with his partner. While the incident happened on the street, it is terribly insensitive to make news out of it. Moreover, capturing photos of celebrities in embarrassing situations and forcing them to make comments in public can lead to mental health issues.

On the other hand, there are people who see this invasion of privacy as the price of fame. They believe that the media brought these people to fame and in turn these people owe the paparazzi pictures and updates at all times. Moreover, they assume that these personalities always want to be in the limelight and deem this act as appropriate.

To conclude, while some people believe that celebrities owe their fame to media and paparazzi, I strongly believe that paparazzi have no right to follow celebrities around and it is a serious invasion of privacy. It must be stopped because it is outright insensitive and can lead to metal health trauma for the people getting ambushed.
