Band 8 IELTS essay sample
It is a common belief among some individuals that resources spent and focus given on protecting wildlife is too much. I completely disagree with this thinking, as without wildlife, the earth will lose its greenery and humans might not survive on the planet.
Wild animals and birds are essential for the ecosystem to survive. If predatory animals like lions, tigers and leopards become extinct, the population of herbivores will explode. Consequently, they will end up eating all the plants and that will lead to the destruction of forests. When they cannot find enough greens in the forests, they will move to human settlements and cause damage to crops. Extinction of wildlife will also lead to loss of green cover on earth and thus it is essential to protect them. Animals play a critical role in the growth and rejuvenation of a forest. For example, when a wild elephant passes through a dense forest, they trample upon many small trees and thus help the sunlight to reach the ground of the forest. This helps new plants and grasses to grow, which in turn helps small insects and bees to survive. Bees then help in the pollination of trees and thus help new trees to grow. Thus, if there are no animals, there will be no forests and life.
Adding to the problem, if we lose forests, the global temperature will increase creating problems for all living beings. As we already know, the increase in global warming is causing devastating effects on planet earth. If there are no forests, life on earth might not be possible. So, it is very critical to have wildlife sanctuaries and protected areas for the entire ecosystem to survive on the earth.
In conclusion, I would say spending money on the conservation of wildlife is good for us and it is essential for protecting the forests and ensuring the survival of humans.
